The Story Behind The SFAA

The Scottish Field Archery Association [SFAA] was formed in 1966 and is a founder member of the International Field Archery Association [IFAA] and is their recognised National Governing Body for the sport in Scotland.
The SFAA co-ordinates the activity of affiliated field archery clubs across Scotland and organises three major championships each year.

  • The Scottish Indoor Archery Championship

  • The Scottish Bowhunter Championship

  • The Scottish Field Archery Championship

  • In addition we run an annual series of IFAA Classification shoots during the outdoor competition season from April through to October.

Many of these competitions are 'Open' in status and archers affiliated to other national governing bodies such as Scottish Archery Association / Archery GB, British Longbow Society or National Field Archery Society are most welcome and may participate on production of a valid membership card.

IFAA style field archery is run on a sport for all basis rather than along elitist lines of many of the Olympic disciplines and our members can therefore compete in IFAA international events such as:

  • World Field Archery Championship

  • World Bowhunter Championship

  • World Indoor Archery Championship

  • European Field Archery Championship

  • European Bowhunter Championship

  • European Indoor Archery Championship

All that is required is that you are a competent archer and have recorded two classification scores in the qualifying period. You then shoot against archers in your own class as well as for the overall titles in some of the friendliest all ability games anywhere in the world.
